JPop Music Review: Yui
Okay, so lets talk about something nitchy and funtastic today. JPop. Yes, the sour-sweet sounds of solid tunes with foriegn words. Face it, either you love it or you hate it. I'm okay with that, I'm not gonna try to swing your vote. But, you my friends, need to know that I love it. This weekend, I got my grubby hands on the newest JPop CD: Yui: I Loved Yesterday. You might recognize her from the Bleach opening theme Rolling Days or the ending theme Life which is also from Bleach.
First, let me make one thing clear: I LOVE Yui. Not like "oh man, she's a great artist" or even "gee, I really like her songs" or "she's hawt." No, I mean all that plus also if I could I'd fly over to Japan and go to all her shows and hold up a sign that says "I'm not sure about Marriage, but how about a strong commitment?" with a little heart on it. Yes, she's currently on my Top 10 Hotties list, and this new CD only helped move her closer to #1. So, given that I'm probably bias on this review... just to be fair. That said, here's my review: Good CD, I think her previous CD was a bit better in terms of singles, but this one is solid and carries her sound across all the songs very well and really offers a more rewarding 'complete listen'. Easily one of the better CDs I've heard since maybe like August of last year (and thats including American and JPop stuff.) Like a couple of the songs a lot, namely Namidairo, Laugh Away, I Will Love You, Daydreamer, and Love & Truth. If you're not familiar with her sound, Yui is an acoustic rock/pop mix. Heavy on guitar, light drums, some string in the background and she typically has a couple of ballads, couple of mid-rockers, and maybe one 'perky' song on each CD (that would be Life on the last CD). But, through out her acoustic and sadly-cheerful sound is there, and her voice is beautiful. Worth a check out if nothing else.. so check it out !!! |
