Manga Killed the Comic Book Star

So, Rob (who's mastery of manga and comic knowledge knows no bounds) linked me this blog about manga X-Men. So, of course I had to look. Its got a few great character layouts, gives you a good idea of what Wolverine, Beast, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat are going to look like.

Apparently, there are 2 different books coming soon. One is X-Men in a shoujo style. We'll start there so I can be mean. To begin with, whoever came up with the idea of shoujo X-Men needs to be hit with steel chairs for an hour. UGH! Shoujo is just a terrible choice to me because it turns X-Men into some sickening drug-induced dream of fairies and runway models and silly talking teddy bears fighting crime with hugs and dramakisses and teeny bop sock-hops! Look at Beast! CLICK THAT LINK AND LOOK AT HIM!! Tell me that doesn't just make you sick! Kitty Pryde is a catgirl. That has NOTHING to do with her mutant powers! Its just to be cute! It just makes me all "sadface boohoo."

Now, Wolverine has promise. I'm liking the art for it. First off, its not Humberto Ramos doing the art so its an immediate step up. Am I right? I'm right, aren't I? Yeah I am.

It's nice to see Western comics head Eastern and open the door to a new audience (sorta). Its VERY cool to see a new interpretation to what many of us consider a classic. But the coolest part is that manga almost always leads to anime which almost always leads to Cartoon Network. Can you see it? 6 years from now we'll have poorly edited Wolverine anime on Adult Swim squeezed between Squidbillies and Tim and Eric Awesome Show. Great job.

Stumble WTH!
